Had no choice. He was climbing up the bannister by my front door. Almost gave Mrs. Jennings a heart attack. She insisted on an immediate death sentence and demanded to see his carcus afterwards.

Rat snake, sometimes known colloquially as a chicken snake. Totally harmless and an efficient predator of rodents. Give the next one a pass.
