Seems like I heard somebody talking about a big plugging and abandonment program out there. That is my bet.

The oil folks sure do like lifting stuff. Trucks, ATVs, Golf Carts, Wife's Saggy Tits. Now I can add boats to the list

Really hope no new rig. Seem to remember one of these liftboats was in the same area a few years back. That's why I thought it was tied to the oil spill cleanup.

Literally drove within half of mile of that one in the gulf on Saturday not far from shore, we weren't sure what it was. Thought it might be for research or something

If by rig you mean platform, it is very doubtful that a liftboat would precede new wells and a new platform.

Possible. I doubt they are shooting new seismic over there, but anything is possible.
If they were shooting new seismic, Bestbanker, then it could be a harbinger of new development. But it takes years to acquire, process, and use seismic to drill new wells. Again, I'm betting a P & A job, or perhaps an old pipeline abandonment in place.

It's one of the riverboats in Shreveport. It just heard that Dallas/Ft Worth was getting legalized gambling.

Like themselves up by their bootstraps. What nerve they have.

UPDATE:
Rumor has it that this is a film set for a Nick Cage movie about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis.

Very sad sight sitting out there in the South Timbalier block. shite ton of money sitting there with no work.

It's a jack-up or liftboat whatever you want to call them. They are used for all sorts of jobs in the GOM. They can used for P&A, Blasting and Painting, construction, diving ops, pipeline projects, slavage operations, etc...
So far the biggest on in the GOM is the Liftboat Robert Class 335'

these are the only vessels that are south of Fourchon right now...All the liftboats that are stacked are further inland
Posted on 6/25/15 at 2:14 pm to tgrbaitn08
the i guess the 30 lift boats i drove past south of the fourchon either are gone or was a mirage.
could have been 5 miles out, but they werent "close"

This came ashore today. Was flying around the set, landed, then looked like it was trying to take off later. Don't know if it's damaged.

Heh heh heh... Was just there all of last week. It is for the movie talked about earlier. USS Indianapolis story. Dad got some great photos of it. That plane is probably done until they rebuild it again.

I spliced all the legs joints on the L/B Robert when I was a fitter.

I've been on the Robert. Can confirm it is freaking huge. Nice interior as well.
