What is living in Pensacola, FL like?

I have been for vacation a few times but am interested in what it is like to live there.
Any information is great to share, mainly interested in good neighborhoods in the area, cost of living, fun and entertainment (other than the beach obviously)
Also would want to hear any bad reviews as well
I'm looking here as a possible landing spot for a residency program and it is one of the places I'm considering applying for that I don't know much about
TIA

Pensacola itself has gotten pretty ghetto and white trash-ish.
The areas around it are fine.

Lived there for a couple years and didn't like it. Lived in Scenic Hills in North Pcola which was pretty nice. The only thing I can say is the people there are weird.

East Hill is a nice neighborhood. I have friends that live in Pensacola and they like it.

what didn't you like about it if you don't mind expanding?

All of the old NY jews retire in FL.
A LOT of slow drivers.

I lived in Gulf Breeze for many years and loved it. I would seriously consider looking there if it wouldn't make your commute too long.
GB is not far from Pensacola, only a quick drive over the 3 mile bridge, and it's also close to the beach.

Consider Navarre, Milton or even Fort Walton Beach before Pensacola. Much nicer areas.

You know the Travel Board?
They would not recommend it to anyone...

Hard to explain. It's like everyone that lives there are transplants.

Slightly better than hell I would imagine

Look into Gulf Breeze if you're new to the area, it's a little nicer than some other parts.
I'm from the area, had family in the Navy there and find it pretty nice and laid back.

I'd live there in a heartbeat. But I'd be careful in choosing which neighborhood/neighboring town.
