Buy one for your wife and slap one of those euro plates on the front. You'll fit right in the Jones next door.

5 star safety rating, medium reliability issues, a bit behind on user interfaces, not a category leader in horsepower.
For wife and kids, outstanding choice.

If you get one, it should be straight cash homey. This is the OT.

Spot on assessment. I personally prefer the Touareg. Only problem with them is air suspension stuff, but I'm not sure if they worked that out or not with this new model
Eta: If I had a chica, she'd probably be driving a Touareg

Lots of smart people buy them.
If I had to get in a wreck, I'd pick a Volvo.

My parents had one and it was the worst vehicle ever.

See?
It kept them safe by not running.

It was always in the shop, and maintenance/repairs were always incredibly expensive.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

Had an 06. Loved it for the most part. Sold it with 130k miles. Had three major things go wrong, all of them were about 1k to fix.

05 V8 or the T6?
The early yamaha 4.4 V8 liked to murder itself due to a bad cam bearing design. The T6 had a GM transmission that was a complete turd for the most part. Good T6 XC90's do exist but they are few and far between, the people that own them will probably hold onto them forever.
The 3.2 front wheel drive xc90's are arguably one of the most reliable SUV's on the road. They have a few Volvoisms but they are mostly Ford underneath. 19mpg around town, decent power, you can buy parts are auto zone, plus the best safety rating of any SUV in it's class.
The only SUV I can think of that's better might be the common rail diesel ML series Mercs.
