Below is the opening paragraph of an advertisement that a guy I know placed in a local Community magazine. He is a brown belt in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and teaches and owns the academy. It is a pretty long ad based on 5 things about life he learned from BJJ.

1. Failure is Inescapable

Are you on the path to achieving your dreams? If not, I guarantee that it is because you are afraid of failure. To improve at Jiu-Jitsu, you must put yourself in a life or death position literally hundreds of times in your first few months as a white belt. Tapping out to someone says "I acknowledge that my physical safety is completely in your hands," a difficult admission for most to accept. AFFLICTION WEARING MEATHEADS wash out quickly because they cannot stand the blow to their egos.

He goes on to list 4 other points but minus any slams of douchebags. But he pushed that horse out of the gate quick in paragraph one. Just seems like an odd thing to put in an ad for your business.

Horrible ad. Just horrible. Reeks of his own insecurity.

I hope his business isn't in Lafayette.

This doesn't sound right. I'm not sure he knows what "literally" means.

That is the odd thing. The guy is extremely modest in person. I know everyone has thoughts they harbor inside and I am sure he does as well but seems like someone should have proofed the article and told him you might want to edit that one sentence.

Sounds like the beginning of an argument to get rid of Miles.

I think he needs to hire someone who actually knows how to write.

Yeah. Thought that was a bit dramatic as well. My eyes about bugged out of my head when I read that sentence about affliction wearing meatheads though. I laughed my arse off.

I think its technically correct but a little blowharded. I'm in a life and death position any time my wife has a knife in the kitchen.

1) Why did you capitalize "Ad" in your title? It's not a proper noun.

2) Why is a brown belt running and teaching the academy and not a black belt?

3) Your friend comes off as a mega-douche bag and seems to have zero business savvy.
