This seems like a cut off your nose to spite your face policy. How does making people you have to deal with think you're an a-hole improve the situation? Sounds like the real problem is this:
People do it out of habit. I do get some people that laugh and apologize and say that that is a habit that they are trying to break. Some people are put out though, but they get the message and it doesn't happen nearly as often with them.
Some people have even said that their new years resolution was to quit saying huh after they knew they heard what the person said.
If I have to be a martyr...so be it.
