What do the medical experts think of "chronic Lyme disease"?

There's a group of women in my town who have been convinced they have "chronic Lyme disease" by doctor in Florida even though all the doctors around here think they're loco. What say the OT Doc's?

You can file it in the same category as fibromyalgia. I am completely convinced that both of these entities are actually chronic fatigue syndrome and due directly to the lack of restorative sleep.
It is amazing to me as a physician how universal the presentations of chronic Lyme and fibromyalgia are. Patients are usually depressed, have poor sleep hygiene, do not go to bed at set times, usually have a laptop/tablet/phone with them when trying to fall asleep, sleep late into the morning, miss extreme amounts of work if employed at all, suffer from polypharmacy (multiple meds often with competing mechanisms of action), and often are sedentary and overweight/obese.

Ah, a "Doctor of Wellness."
I too am a "Doctor of Wellness".
I can whip you up a batch of Uncle Doctor Fr33's Miracle Tonic!
It will cure what ails ya! Or at least make you forget about it! Our Mercury is vegan, gluten-free, and free-range.

a quick screen for these crazy (self) diagnosis is an allergy list. More than 4 or so drug allergies, and the patient will inevitably have FM, Lyme disease, gluten sensitivity or other nonsense.

Questions on a difficult Lyme disease case?
Go see an infectious disease specialist, not an anesthesiologist.

The IDSA guidelines in 2006, the American Academy of Neurology practice parameter in 2007, and the Ad Hoc International Lyme Disease Group in 2007 concluded that currently available evidence does NOT support the hypothesis that persistent infection with B. burgdorferi is the cause of chronic subjective symptoms that may occur after recommended courses of antibiotic therapy for Lyme disease.
The proportion of patients who develop post-Lyme disease syndrome is relatively small. Of the three major randomized trials of patients with post-Lyme disease syndrome, all had substantial difficulty in identifying subjects who met the entry criteria and therefore enrolled only a minority of those who were screened. The majority of the other patients typically have no evidence of having had Lyme disease, although many have been given a diagnosis of "chronic Lyme disease."
Chronic Lyme disease is a term that is used by some practitioners and patient advocacy groups. In its typical usage, it includes the post-Lyme disease syndrome described above, as well as illnesses and symptom complexes for which there is no convincing scientific evidence of any relationship to B. burgdorferi infection.
Many of these patients have other recognizable syndromes or diagnoses. In one case series, for example, three patients who were diagnosed as having chronic Lyme disease had an underlying malignancy.
Among patients with nonspecific symptoms of fatigue and myalgias, these subjective symptoms are sometimes accompanied by tender points of fibromyalgia. Since fibromyalgia is common in the general population, the association of Lyme disease and fibromyalgia may sometimes be by chance alone.
TLDR.....It's bullshite, bitches be crazy, prolly never had Lyme disease and have fibromyalgia.
