What are the current hiking conditions in the Smokies post-fire?

Travel board has zero traffic.

I'm thinking of taking a backpacking trip to the Smokies.
Given the horrendous fire that recently occurred, is this a good idea? Is it best to avoid parts of the park near Gatlinburg? How about the NC side?

they are fine. fire was bad but not THAT devastating.

chimney tops are still closed. think that's about it hiking wise
