Weight loss: What actual percentage is Diet/Exercise?

We always hear people throw numbers out there: 50% diet/50% exercise, 60/40, even 75/25.
Is there a actual number or are there too many variables?

I could make a pretty good case for damned near 100/0

100/0 to 0/100, anything is possible depending on the effort/sacrifice

Well, you can lose weight with or without exercise.

You get abs in the kitchen.
If you aren't eating well and breaking it down to proper protein/carbs/fat then with a caloric deficit factored into that then you'll never lose a pound unless you damn near kill yourself in the gym regularly

There are a lot of variables but for the simple sake of weight loss the diet is more important.

For weight loss (not overall fitness) I'd say it's 90% diet, 10% exercise. Mostly because the exercise will inspire you to eat better (and less).

95% Diet
5% Exercise
I got skinny fat because I thought since I was doing heavy running every day and such I could eat whatever I want.
You lose pounds in the kitchen, ounces in the gym

Weight loss: Caloric Intake < calories burn
End of story. However you make that happen doesn't matter as long as it happens.
That might not make you healthy, or able to build muscle, etc... But it will make you lose weight.

Did you read a book or just said enough is enough?
What gives?

I'm definitely not trying to out work a bad diet. Been hitting the gym hard and eating relatively fat free lately, plus plenty of water.

It's the carbs not the fat.

For weight loss? about 90/10.
For general fitness it's about 60/40.

When I excercise more, I tend to eat more.
So, if I want to lose weight , I've got to count calories.

Well, if you eat literally nothing, you will lose weight, so you could argue its 100% diet. But if you want to actually be in good shape rather than just weigh less, I'd say it's 50/50
