For those of you that have to be at work from 5-6 am, do you find it better to workout before or after? Also, what is your routine as far as how many days a week you lift weights and how many days you commit to cardio? As far as running goes, I would like to start running 4-5 miles at least 4 days a week. I havent really ran much, but I have a 5k coming up and I want to start training for it asap. Any help from the OT lifters would be much appreciated.

If you are at the gym by 3:45am then you are waking up at 3:15-3:30 ?

So if you are waking up at 3:15 what time are you going to sleep?

Morning. You get a better workout on an empty stomach and it's a fine way to kick start your day

I don't stay in any routine more than 3 or 4 weeks. Just flipped my schedule to workout 3 days straiight and take off 2 straight days.

Day 1 is chest, shoulders, and triceps.

Day 2 is Legs

Day 3 is Back and biceps and I squeeze in leg curls after deadlifts.

That puts me at 5 days rest between muscle groups. I also like getting 2 leg workouts in every week.

After a month I'll go back to working out 5 days a week and splitting it up better.

Day 1 Chest and shoulders

Day 2 Legs

Day 3 Back

Day 4 Arms

Day 5 Legs

I also quit "maxing out". I'm 40. Crap hurts more these days. I try and lift about 75-80% of what I think my max is for 8-10 reps which is more conducive for hypertrophy.

With the heat and humidity still around, it's hard for me to run outside in the afternoons. Early morning is not a lot better, but it is.

I hate running. I'm thinking about going to the pool at my gym a few days a week. Just hate seeing the beluga whales in there swimming around.

Honestly, you'll be better off with sticking to one or the other. If you're serious about lifting then you don't need to be running 4-5 miles 4 days a week. You try doing both and you're going to struggle with both and muscle fatigue leads to injuries.

I was going to bed by 8 and waking up at 3:30. Slept in my gym cloths and lived 5 minutes from the gym.

Morning PT always made my blood sugar crater and I would get extremely nauseous unless I ate something first.
