Does anyone know of a garage door repair company in the BR/Ascension area that would come out on the weekend? The spring at the top snapped so now the opener can't pull the door up.

Thanks.

Yeah I wouldn't pay whatever weekend rate would be for that. Pull that handle that disengages the door and call someone on Monday is what I would do.

Must be an epidemic.

The RH spring snapped on mine today. I just watched some dude explain how to change them out on youtube so I bought a new pair of springs online and I'll rough it for a few days without opening the door.

..with one of the counterbalance springs snapped, it's almost impossible for a normal person to lift it manually.

The other problem is that when you let it go, it'll come crashing down with a broken spring.

Mine broke this past Tuesday.

Go to your nearest home improvement store and buy 2 new springs and replace them yourself.

Seriously consider not doing this. It is one of those jobs that is not worth the saving when you consider the risk. It can kill you.

Yeah. You can kill someone trying to pull up that 200lb door.

Replacing the springs? Not so much for anyone who isn't an idiot.

Where did you get yours locally?

I looked around and couldn't find any.

How many pounds of pressure are behind those springs?!

They are a deadly weapon.

Had this happen last month. I lifted the door with someone else activating the opener. Once up, it stays up.

I'm pretty handy, but just called and had someone come out and do it. Replaced both springs $300.

Meh.

It showed no torsion springs in stock.

On the other hand... if you can somehow deal with your vehicle(s) living outside in the Louisiana elements for another 24-48 hours, recently I had a tech from Overhead Door come out and do a tune-up on my ancient garage door. Dang thing now opens, closes and latches "like buttah" -- and like it hasn't done in done in years.

Wasn't terribly expensive

I removed both old torsion springs today and I will head to Doortech in BR tomorrow to buy replacements.

The only issue I had in the removal was over-torqued torsion spring bolts for both springs which bent the torsion tube bar at each point.

..other than that, it was easy.

I'll buy some official winding bars tomorrow when I purchase the new springs. Oversized screwdrivers were fine for removal, but I would rather use the right equipment for the re-installation.

yep, there's a lot of energy on those springs, it's not rocket science but there is a technique and if you don't know how it's done, it can really frick you up, in my area $235 is pretty standard for changing out two residential springs
