i am not bothered by it. I'm strictly talking about the rules set forth by the school.

I believe I might have a solution to this issue.

An explicit warning is given beforehand to the prospective graduates that no outburst will be acceptable or tolerated.
Warn them that if a disturbance is made, the ceremony will be stopped until the persons making the disturbance have been removed from the room.

At the beginning of the ceremony, let the crowd know of this policy.

It will take exactly one challenge of this policy and subsequent ejection of a violator to stop this poor behavior.

Is this a violation of the moron's right to Free Speech? Sure. Sue me.

My right to swing my fists stop where your face begins.
I'm a civil person who has the self-discipline to sit through a proceeding without breaking into a 90 decibel War Chant.
Become civil-ized, people.

All of the things you stated happened at my graduation, except for the enforcement. Hell, even at LSU they asked to hold your applause. This was the engineering college graduation, so it wasn't like all the general studies majors. There was still people acting ridiculous.

The worst that I have seen was when my wife got her MBA at UNO. That was BAD. They received their diplomas, then walked around the perimeter of the floor in the arena to get back to their seat. Parents would go to the bottom of the stands and scream for their kid as they would pass them. So not only did you get loud cheering for the announcement, but it would randomly keep going as people would pass family members.

I applaud the police for issuing these warrants. Every other graduation/event needs to follow this procedure. Shut your mouth until the end

Speak with permission only or go to jail. Right?

t's amazing how many people in favor of "small government" rely on the state to put away people they don't like.

I had no idea she had kids at her school that graduation would be seen as such an accomplishment.

This. High schools should avoid any ceremony and simply hand seniors their diploma (or put in in their lockers) on the last day of school with a letter that starts with, "Congratulations on achieving the bare minimum."

I think you need a reality check on what the "bare minimum" is

I think that there was a mistake. Authorities thought they screamed out "Hydra" instead of Lakydra and thought they were referring to the evil global terrorist group.

Don't feel sorry for them. If someone asks you politely to hold all applause or celebrations until after everyone's names have been called, do it. Your baby isn't special. Your baby doesn't deserve to have an airhorn blown and have the entire fricking ceremony stopped because of them. They're just another kid completing high school.

this ... a hs diploma is now some sainted accomplishment to be treated like a lottery win ...

This wasnt just "a little cheering." Blowing an airhorn is not "a little cheering." I have a problem with this no matter who is doing it or where they are doing it.

I went to my daughters dance recital a few weeks ago and observed what I assume was a dad doing the catcall whistle and yelling at his daughter onstage during one of the other groups routines. They couldn't have been 10 years old. Screaming out her name well into the start of the number. Its obnoxious and highly inappropriate, not to mention distracting to a kid onstage having her dad whistling at her like a construction worker on the road.

I'm not a fan of the yelling, but does that dickhead think his request makes it law?

Disturbing the peace on a private campus (not the high school) where the public is invited?

Wouldn't the university have to have a law in place to be enforced like this.

They will sue the stupid frick and the high school, and win.

Most reasonable people agree with this, but pressing charges for being obnoxious is also rather obnoxious.

I can deal with the cheering. It's that awful dialect they use that gets me.
