Anyone ever owned a vw touareg or tiguan? Any thoughts, problems?
The wife is dead set on getting a VW Suv for some reason. She had a TDI Passat at one time. It got great fuel milage, but it wasn't a very well built car IMO.

Tiguan is wayyyy too small. The Touareg is an awesome vehicle. You can upgrade to the max and it will rival the best BMW, Lexus, etc

I've got a cayenne, which is built on the same platform as the tourag. It's built like a tank and drives great. The new body style (2011+) is vastly improved from the old ones.
The diesel is the one to get, but even the gas v6 will scoot. Because of the whole "diesel gate" you might get a killer deal on one right now. I'm cheap, so I would opt for a CPO one with a warranty up to 100k miles.

what year? My wife's 2013 Passat is one of the better cars we've every had. The quality on it is excellent

The warranty on the Touareg is longer than on other VWs; powertrain is 10 years/100K miles because it is built on the Porsche platform. TDI version is great as well. There is no TDI in the Tiguan. The panoramic roof on either vehicle is awesome.

<--- has a 2015 Passat TDI SEL. I love it, but parts of it do seem to be cheaply made & the touch screen controls are SLOW.
