Greenlight Plan Tax

I'm supporting both Greenlight Plan taxes. I'm not a big tax guy but this dedicated tax has been proven solid and well spent. It is time to move it to the next phase and I for one will vote for it.

How do the traffic gurus on this board feel?

And this is an OT question - not the political board.

The plan ends 2046. Too little too late. The green light plan already in place hasn't done shite. It's only gotten worse.

So you think things would be better without the tons of projects completed under the current plan?

Has traffic improved? At all?

As a matter of fact it HAS improved things in the areas the plan addressed.

The problem is we are 20-30 years behind in infrastructure so every improvement seems like a drop in the bucket.

Where the projects have been completed, yes.

By the time they get these projects done, if autonomous vehicles hit the road any time soon, the money may go to waste on the longer time horizons.

Going to be interesting how municipalities handle how this tech may make many projects useless/wasteful.

A fully autonomous traffic system is 30 years away. Are you willing to wait until then to be able to get through the Nicholson/Lee intersection in less than 20 minutes?

The traffic situation would vastly improve If Baton Rouge drivers understood that you wait until you can completely cross an intersection. I sat through two cycles at Perkins and Essen the other day and was three cars behind the line.

A lot of people in BR seem to not like to sit in the middle of the intersection when turning left.

The Siegen/I-10 intersection is the same way. People clammoring to get through the light only to be stopped short and gridlocking everyone else

Does 100% of this specific tax money go into accounts exclusively to be used for this purpose?

LA likes to throw everything into the General Fund so they can legally steal in true Ponzi fashion.

Population and business growth clogged the streets, right. But doesn't population and business growth directly result in increased tax revenue? Why are we supposed to believe that growth justifies new taxes?

If Houston had added a new tax every time the population grew, then the government would have confiscated every dollar that anyone had by now.

I wouldn't typically be opposed to this, but after that bullshite Council on Aging tax that the Metro Council let go to the ballot and pass, I'm not sure yet how I'm going to vote on these. Not to mention the tax for the mental health facility that's also on the ballot. All the shitty NPOs in EBR are about to start lining up the next couple years at the council chambers for dedicated property taxes and it doesn't seem like there's going to be much opposition to them. Property taxes in EBR are climbing at the worst possible time.

They could have alleviated this a lot with dedicated left turn/straight signal years ago rotating around without widening the road.

Did they ever do that?

That's rough. I hate when I'm in this situation and it is so bad it is necessary to do the same or you will be there for an hour. You end up with a guy ahead of you "following the rules" but the rules are out the window eventually. Turns into Nigeria quickly.

Add to that:

Do not ride someone's arse. It causes lots of braking and crashes.

Do not get over at an exit or on the interstate at the last minute. For example people ride in the Hammond, Essen and Acadian Exit lanes on I-10 until the very end then try and squeeze over. It is a cluster.

Tons of basic little things could vastly improve our traffic. There are just too many selfish arse-holes around here who think their time is more valuable than everyone else's.

Not to mention the BREC Tax. They have reports saying to close a golf course and they won't do it. They are also building water parks. Exactly what our government should be doing.
