I'll have a little extra time heading out to Florida this weekend and was thinking of stopping by the park to let my kids see the planes, jets, tanks, etc. Is there a fee to park? Are there additional fees to just walk around the grounds and take pictures?
TIA
TIA

Every kid should have their parents do this for them.

If you really want to take them to something neat, stop at the Naval Air Museum in Pensacoula. It is pretty damn amazing and free to enter.

there is a bit of cost but it's not much. I took the family there a couple weeks ago while we were down at the beach. Both the kids loved it. Just be aware the inside of he ship is for the most part non- AC. And you will be doing a lot of walking so I'd wear some good comfortable running shoes.
They have a snack bar where you can get lunch and an ice cream. Or you could do like we did and go over to the picnic area over in the cover (past the bow of the ship, and have a family picnic.

If you visit the museum, directly across the street is the light house. Don't waist your time with that but directly behind it, near the cottages, is a very nice shaded pic nic area and beach for swimming and fishing. Great area for a family to spend an afternoon.

Great place to stop. I brought my kids a few years ago on our way to Orange Beach and we also went to the Naval Air museum on that trip. Both are worth the time. If you don't feel patriotic and also feel like kicking some arse after visiting the USS Alabama then something is wrong with you

Too much walking for young kids.
Just pay the $2 to park and walk the grounds. Plenty to see, planes, tanks, artillery, and the pier that leads out over Mobile Bay.

I just drove by it on my way home from work and the parking lot didn't seem to be that bad. There was a tent set up in front of the battleship but I have no idea what for..
Tried to take a picture (was not driving) and it looked like I took it with a potato because of the bumps over the bridge we were on (Causeway)
MY bad. I can post it if you want for the

I'd do it if I were you. It's hot as dicks to high hell inside the Bama and Drum (the sub). The pavillion is nice too. Overall it's a great experience and it's always awesome to see the scope of the war machines that our brave Americans fought with. There's also a T-72 from the Gulf War (?) out in the yard.
Definitely hit up the Naval Air Station Museum if you're heading that way. You can spend hours in there and the area around the base. There's Fort Barrancas near the museum too.

I still remember the time my Dad took us there when I was a kid. Awesome place. I go back there when I have to go to LA for business. There's two airplanes on display there, that I have flown.

I have to admit, that's a fine-looking ship. Makes this USN vet's chest swell with pride.
Now here is where I admit that I was a TAR...Training Active Reserve...and I never served aboard a ship, and was never deployed for more than ten days at a time. It was brutal, but someone had to do it.
