Article that was posted last week in another thread. Original Article.
I was confused at how the article explained the mechanism of injury. It appears that the bar landed on his spine when his butt was on the floor increasing the axial load resulting in a burst fracture. Just a guess.

Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Now he's a cross-sitter

Is that a so-called exercise he was supposed to be doing as many as he could as fast as he could?

Deadspin had it up earlier. It doesn't look bad at all.
For those too squeamish to watch, he jerks the lift, lowers the bar to near his shoulders (squat placement of the bar) then falls backwards. The bar seems to hit his mid-upper back as he falls onto his butt with his torso vertical. The video is shot from the front and not super close up, so you don't see much.
Considering how devastating the injury was, the injury itself is unimpressive on video.

That looked like the bar fell perfectly on the spine. That's awful

It's like 5 seconds long. He drops the weight and the video stops as soon as he hits the floor.

I would assume yes.

it's a snatch. it doesnt look bad, but it's prob an insane amount of weight coming down on him

Not exactly. The goal was to find a 3 rep max touch and go. This was his first lift, so it's not like fatigue was a huge issue.

Same time if you're not in the right mindset your first can be just as awkward.

But I heard it was the 8th or 9th exercise out of 11. So chances are he was fatigued

Along with every other person in the competition. So what?
