I had posted in this thread when I started it yesterday.

i saw it bumped today and saw a shining example of stupidity from Dan.

I have now proven that stupidity, we'll see if he actually learns from the scientific research I've linked...or if he'll just believe what he "knows" is the truth, regardless of reality.

Damn....you can literally hear the dog dying. Shoot it again, at least.

Worst part about the whole video. The dog isn't even dead yet, and you can hear it suffering. At that point, the cop should have at least done the humane thing and finished the job.

Your dog wags it's tail when you come home because you feed it.

That's weird because I can't count the dogs that I've never fed that have wagged their tails at me. You sure know a lot about dogs.

Perhaps they wag their tail at you because they have had good interactions with other humans and have been conditioned to expect positive reinforcement.

Why don't you refer to your "wife's dog" as "our dog"?

Can dogs problem solve and reason?

Yes, actually they can.

quote:

The dog knows the names of 1,022 objects — mostly toys like distinct balls, stuffed animals, and Frisbees — and can fetch them on command. She understands the principle of exclusion, grabbing a toy she has never seen before when asked for an object she doesn't know. She also understands the subcategories that the objects fall into, such as "balls" and "Frisbees." The dog was tested over a period of three years, and in 838 tests she never scored below 90 percent correct, according to the Wofford researchers' report. The authors of the study, says U.S. News, "admitted that she remembered the names of each of her 1,022 toys better than they could."

Here is just one link to an article about Chaser. You can find articles about her all over the place. Try and educate yourself.

This would be another common example of reasoning.

That would actually make my case that they are perfectly capable of understanding and reasoning.

I didn't realize we had a tried and true animal research scientist with us. You seem to know a lot about animals and dog behavior. Which vet school did you go to again?

Or that they are subject to conditioning.

Conditioning is far from reasoning.

I didn't purchase the dog and don't take care of it. I don't mistreat the dog and will help out if it is unavoidable but outside of that I don't pick up crap or feed it.

She purchased it under the agreement that she would take care of it. If the dog runs out of food late in the evening she is the one that runs to the store to buy it. If the dog craps in the yard she is the one that picks it up. I grew up with animals on a farm and I don't want the hassle of caring for them and so I don't.
