Odd thing is from my work experience, those who try and work get penalized. Medicaid will drop you like a hot brick if you get a job. Food stamps same thing. If you just go ward of the State you get more. So the Gov does not typically reward incentive. It is like when you really need 500 but someone spots you a 20.

Mine point was easy. You can get a job by tomorrow. I didn't make any other warranties.

Since it is easy, can you name a job that would pay off $400/week that I could pick up tomorrow?

40hr Max

Do you qualify for unemployment if you were fired?

From what I understand in some cases, yes. I don't know the details that allow this.

I guess it was just a random point that didn't contribute to the conversation, and that's why I missed it

Whatever. Yes I feel very sorry for those who have worked and lost their jobs and cannot find one. Many who are drawing unemployment are simply too lazy to go back to work until the benefits run out. Obama keeps extending unemployment benefits so don't let the "total benefit" amount fool you. They keep drawing checks so that money is spent to help the economy look good.

From what I read today you do not automatically qualify unless you were laid off due to no fault of your own. If you were fired you will have a chance to tell your side of the story. A chase worker determines if you qualify (same if you quit).

As the law is written, no. However, there is an appeal process that allows you to basically claim you were wrongfully terminated, and in actuality, the vast majority of anyone that appeals gets accepted. The interpretation is extremely liberal, and most states will give it to you.

It's a shame actually. I've known people that flat out got fired for different things, including not showing up for work, etc. And they've gotten to collect benefits.

You wanna know why she gets less... Because she's 70 and already on social security.. The woman has probably made some poor decisions in her life and while I feel for her plight, I don't believe she deserves the max from unemployment while collecting SS.

Last job I had the boss had to go in and give some sort of statement. Luckily he had all of his paperwork and won it, from what I hear it usually doesn't go in favor of the employer if it is challenged.

The amount you get is based on your highest average quarterly earnings not to be less than the minimum or more than the maximum for each State. Her career was at or around minimum wage. She got 60 because her earnings was low. SS did not figure into the equation.

I think that's probably it. Most employers don't have the time to properly challenge it.

Like what? Having the audacity to grow up in an era when it was still customary for women to keep house and raise family while the man worked as the primary breadwinner?

Some of you are incredible.

p

The interpretation can be extremely liberal. However, if a personal receives unemployment benefits after termination, it is usually bc there is something questionable (by liberal definition) regarding the termination ie Forced resignation, failure to follow established disciplinary/termination procedures, thinly veiled layoff, etc. I've rarely lost an unemployment hearing fighting benefits for a terminated employee in over 15 years. I can probably count on 1 hand.

How can people afford to hire a lawyer to get only a few hundred bucks a week? I guess over the long haul it could payoff.

Good Lord. I was laid off in 1987, and the max back then was $205 per week. Hardly any increase since then. Pitiful.
