Net guns already exist, they can't arrest you for hitting it with a rock, baseball, slingshot, etc.

I own one similar to this and I could frick a drone up with a big rock. Mine shoots golf balls out of it with pretty awesome velocity and accuracy.

Fly your drone over your own damn property.

First...like about 98% of the various things which have gotten panties wadded up on this site over the last few months, I could not care less about this issue.

With that out of the way...what if a drone was flying directly over a public street but clearly pointing a camera into a private yard? What if instead of the street, it was over the drone owner's own property but doing the same?

I'm asking...what's the real issue here? Above which property the drone is hovering or what it can do by being high enough to see things it ought not be able to were it not that high?

Same thing if someone was on the street themselves in a high tree with a camera pointed at you/your house.

Or if you neighbor was sitting high in a tree in his yard filming you.

There are privacy and harassment laws against that.

Google has a 'drone' that takes pictures of everyone's back yard with the option of switching to street view of your front door. Granted it's not a live feed and they do their best to block out questionable material. The problem is that you couldn't shoot it down even if you wanted to.

That's kind of what I'm asking those who suggest shooting it down. Is the "shooting it down" solely in regards to the location of the drone over their own yard, or what it's potentially doing while airborne? Someone hyperbolically suggested earlier that it could potentially be flown by someone around the world...how do you handle that if an unknown drone if flying down the street?

I find the drone hysteria a bit funny, FWIW. I see the concerns obviously, but... This July 4th we had gone to see some fireworks locally and their were several drones up flying around the crowd. Now...these were clearly there so that they could video the fireworks from inside the explosions, but listening to some of the geniuses around us you'd have sworn the purpose was to record images of the crowd in order to find their homes and rape them later that night.

I think its 400 meters. My drone is hard coded so that you can't go any higher than 400 meters.

There will always be some people that use them irresponsibly. it doesn't mean everyone who owns a drone is a moron. also from the article the guy was flying the drone 10 feet off the ground spying on his daughter. he deserved to get it shot down.

I side with the shooter. I'd argue the drone operator was scoping his property out for future criminal activity and was criminally trespassing.

Sounds like he has a lot of overprotective, pent up rage over his daughter being a slutty teenager. He could probably use some time behind bars to think about his criminal act.

Are you fricking retarded? The man wants to protect his privacy and the privacy of his family from some possible pervert and he's the bad guy. Are you serious Clark? You done smoked yourself stupid.

Update: Apparently the owner has come out publicly, saying the drone was flying 200+ ft high and moving quickly, thus the shooter is lying about the drone's behavior, which can be proven by the drones computer.

The owner seemed convincing enough on the news...

ETA:
LINK: hmm. Video with owner walking through the flight path...also convincing although not sure how easy/hard it is to alter that.

How big is that drone to even notice it that far away? and if it was flying fast 200 ft up how long would it even be in the guy's vision to shoot it?

Yeah the owner sounds full 0f shite.

Does the computer also have pictures on it? Look through those and i bet there will be some damaging evidence

Didn't the shooter say the drone was ~10 ft in the air hovering in their backyard right before he shot it? Does the computer dispute this claim or did they see him grab the gun and rapidly ascend?

So, he shot down a quick flying object at almost 70 yards? I'm not taking him duck hunting. I'll never get a shot! But, if I ever meet him, he's got a cold beer on me.
