I've heard some pretty fricked up things about Diez.

That would be a big mistake. What is their reasoning to make it private? Can the BR area sustain 4 private golf courses? I doubt it

Ive been meaning to play there. How does it compare to say Carter Plantation?

I'd say Carter is definitely a step above PP. I played CP 2 weeks ago and the greens were very good. A few tee boxes looked like they could use some work but overall the course looked great. PP never seems to get in great condition to me but I only play it a few times a year. It's usually above average though, never see it in bad shape.

I think both PP and Carter are pretty bland but I give the nod to Carter overall.

At one time Pelican had the best greens in the area.

This sounds like the Bluffs move years ago...that didn't work either. I do know that the pace of play out there can be very good except for the occasional non-member hack that doesn't know to let people through or to pick up the pace.

Carter has some bland holes but no way does it suck.

Conditioning was terrible. Bare dirt in lots of spots, greens were rolling bout a 6. I have 0 desire to ever play there again

While every other golf course in the nation, with a few notable exceptions, is suffering from revenue issues and decreased rounds played per year I believe Pelican Point can certainly justify bucking the trend and moving to a private club status. After all, chasing away paying players for the sake of a smaller minority of dues paying members who may play more rounds per person (albeit revenue neutral rounds since they are playing as members) certainly justifies getting rid of those pesky full rate playing public folk.

Not.

I'm probably just biased because I play LaTour, and there aren't many, if any courses in the state that are in that kind of shape

I guess I'll have to make the hour and a half drive to La Tour as much as I see it mentioned on here.

It is pristine.

I'll give you the 3 issues with it right now since you're not familiar

1. Quad wide trailer clubhouse (new one will be built soon)

2. Gravel paths were result of shitty contractor that went out of business. Those will be rectified soon

3. Some bunker liners are torn up and need to be replaced. Expecting that to be addressed soon

PP just had a big $99 trial membership for May. Guess they were seeing how many they could convert. Like someone said earlier, they prolly know their numbers & what they need to hit to make it work. Good luck to them if they do...I'll be over at Santa Maria
