Usually when an innocent upstanding citizen whitey is killed in NOLA, they catch the perp within a few days. This is about the only instance I can think of the last decade where a white guy's murder isnt solved.
Especially weird given he was a pretty connected guy, as far as well known, involved in a shite ton of business activity, politics, etc. Real fricked up that no progress has been made but deep in the hood I guess that's how they roll.

Worst places for me were behind a house with a small fenced in yard. I always faced the front of the house and never turned my back to it.

The east never felt too bad to be honest. There just isn't that many people there. I do know a female poster that went into houses and had bums surprise her a couple of times

I know the son; truly sad really. I can't imagine the pain of not knowing your father's killer is in jail

I knew Bruce .. We would run into each other here and there in the real estate development circles .. Great guy .. Just a horrible tragedy. I always thought it was random. On a smaller scale, We used to do a lot in the Gardere area around that time. Things like this just made us realize that it wasn't worth it .. We sold all of our interests by the end of 2013. It's hard to believe it's already been three years .. RIP, Bruce ..

Here's hoping the killer is eventually found and justice served ..

An old friend was a cop in the East (9th Dist?) and I went on some ride alongs (pre-K). The danger of the east was more subtle than like housing projects like Magnolia or Desire, etc. But just as bad...like the bad elements were more spread out but also more mobile. The neighborhoods often looked decent enough but harbored the same or worse danger. Probably worse because it didn't seen as threatening superficially. IMO.

Even thugs have some type of motive for shooting someone. There is more to this story than this. Unless it was some kind of mistaken identity I just have a hard time believing it was random

A great motive is robbery and many "thugs" and hood figures see white people as a possible cash cow.

A lot of random robbery deaths.

There are seven active officers to cover an area the size of New Orleans proper. That district is overtaxed. I usually only see cops regualry on Hayne and Chef Mentaur, I can go to the east multiple times and not see an officer. I guess growing up in Kenner I'm used to seeing a cop every five minutes.

The upper ninth and the seventh spook me the most.
A lot of crap goes down out there and you see the craziest shite. The East is mostly empty but what scares me about the east is how easy it would be to get away with a crime.

You could dump a body and a car in the east and it could be months before found.
Gives me the willys.

While not technically in the east, I personally think Downman is worse

Dowman is in the East. As soon as you cross the canal you are in the east.

Dowman, Morrison, Dwyer Chef and Old Gentilly all right there at the foot of the east.

Dowman isn't that bad, just looks like shite. The airplane neighborhood behind dowman is scary as shite. Only one way in and looks mostly empty.

Hayne and Lake Forrest have some really nice houses. Also many areas between the lake and I-10 have rebounded wonderfully since the storm.

Yea I know I said that before I knew he was robbed. From what I read I thought he was just shot once in the head and that's it.

My uncle lives on Wright and, while the demographics have changed a lot, it's still nice. Most of the East south of I-10 is middle class and relatively safe. Unfortunately, with only seven officers covering almost 60 square miles, spillover crime is inevitable.
