Update on my stomach issues-Gallbladder

Hey guys
I posted here last week that I went to a specialist for stomach pain and he wants to do testing to figure out the issue. I did a sonogram last week and here is what they told me on my results word for word
Sonogram showed Gallbladder is distended, sludge present, some fluid around Gallbladder.
Recommend blood work and further testing
Anyone have a similar issue? What were your symptoms and how serious was it? This is starting to freak me out. I have my scope and colonoscopy next week.

You need a HIDA scan

Yep.
Have you lost a lot of weight, had a pretty radical change in your diet in the last few years? It's not at all uncommon for people who go from an unhealthy diet to a strict/healthy diet with significant weight loss to have gallbladder issues.

If you get it taken out, you will never shite right again. Trust me. But its better than dealing with the pain. Had mine removed 3 years ago and it's Niagara Falls every time I shite.

That could be what you have going on. It has something to do with the restriction of fat and the gallbladder adjusting to it (I can't remember the exact science of it). They see it a lot in people who have lapband or gastric bypass too.

I wish I'd known that ahead of time. Now, almost immediately after I eat I have to find a toilet within minutes. There's often no time to waste. After researching, I discovered it's a fairly common side effect to having the gall bladder removed.

I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes, I think its better to just eat on the toilet.

I bet you stay pretty thin though right?

that is a side effect for the minority of patients who have had their gall bladder removed. I had mine removed last December (stones) and I've had no such issue.

No, another side effect is apparently you're suddenly immune to all laws of nature and logic. Eat, immediately shite out more than you just ate and still not lose weight.

I would wait and see. The findings can represesnt nothing or something more nefarious.

tolerated this for 18 months until April of this year. my gastro did an ultrasound, similar results, and i had my gallbladder removed the next week. easiest procedure you will ever have. life post gallbladder is no cakewalk. the gallbladder handles your fat intake, all those fat grams on nutritional labels. post GB i can only handle < 10 fat grams. which means i eat a lot of grilled fish and chicken and lots of salads. i'm calling it God's Diet lol. Dr. Contreary performed my surgery and i highly recommend him. office on Houma Blvd in Metry.

spot on reply! i went from normal living and eating to gluten free in 2013. my body couldn't handle the real food after a life of junk. but i'm so glad to be off the junk food. had my GB out April 2015.

totally agree with you. the gallbladder handles the fat in our foods so you have to eat right post GB surgery. all the people with problems have no doubt not adjusted their diet post GB.

I know someone who had very similar findings, had the HIDA scan, and other testing.
Turns out he had a parasite in his intestine called Giardia. Was successfully treated with antibiotics, and the gallbladder symptoms went away.
Good luck!
