[update] My daughter provided me details of her dream
Posted by mizzoukills on 10/22/16 at 10:54 am444
...and it involves a magic candle. WTF?
What is the significance of the magic candle?
quote:
My wife, daughter, and I were walking in a flooded city street. We seemed all alone. All of the buildings were "creepy" and "dark" except in the window of one vacant building was a single lit candle. We waded thru the water toward the building. When we reached the window, my daughter told me not to touch the candle but I did anyhow. The moment I touched the candle, a deluge of water (my daughter referred to it as a "big waterfall") fell from the sky ("Heaven") and we all instantly began to drown. A boat came along and rescued my wife and daughter, but something pulled me underwater. They frantically tried to rescue me but no matter what they did, the boat moved just beyond my reach. My wife and daughter screamed for me as I struggled to reach the boat. Soon after being rescued they watched me drown. And then she woke up.
What is the significance of the magic candle?

You should consider the fact that the dream is more symbolic of what she perceives as something (vice, behavior, hangup, addiction, etc) that is "drowning" you to the point that they can't help you. It's maybe something you're aware of and refuse to address or something she's brought up, even casually, that you've ignored. I think dreams like this are much more likely to be subconscious manifestations of a person's emotional or psychological stress than a literal precognition of an actual event.

She did just start school. I don't see any indications of stress, but teachers have informed parents that oftentimes children become stressed during the first few weeks of school. They even hand out warning signs of stress.
Something to think about.

The candle is not magic. It is symbolic and it represents hope. Your daughter is insecure. She feels like bad things happen and may believe that they are linked to false hope.
She's been through something tough and appreciates that you and your wife helped her through it. She views you as the strong one. That's why you died. It is among her worse fears.

Funny you say that. My grandmother passed away not long ago. My grandmother's funeral was my daughter's first exposure to death.
After the funeral, she asked me if I'm going to die. That's a tough question to answer. I deflected and told her that her mommy and I will live long lives and always be there for her. She started crying and said she doesn't ever want me to die.
That made me tear up.
