Why are you on TD posting about a non-storm in Punta Cana? You really have nothing better to do or a view of the sunrise to see?
When I go on vacation anywhere (much less an island) I don't get on any type of social media. Seems counterproductive.

Probably because TS Erika is right on top of Punta Cana right now.

Westward moving wave that could encounter an eastward moving KW and improving upper levels south of Cuba

Higher mountains and larger island? Or wind shear?

Both, shear has been stubborn and not relaxed as fast as forecasted. The mountains are larger and can be more disruptive of the circulation and the down slope winds can feed dry air in the system.

You really think it's gonna make it south of Cuba? That'd be a ballsy prediction

I don't make predictions just a bit of mental gymnastics with the morning coffee.

This thing still moving west... Wasn't there an outlier model the other day that had this storm going straight in Mexico/ Yucatan.

This thing going to stay south of Santo Domingo with its westerly track...

What if anything is going to steer it North if it stays barely a tropical storm?

Yeah I've had my suspicions that it's no longer a closed low since this morning. GFS doesn't have it closing off until it gets past Cuba.. our internal model never closes it off.

eta: oh hey, that is the GFS winds

Yeah, just a cool visualization of the data.

What are yall running? WRF with domain over tropics and GFS boundary layer? Does it show any skill beyond what EMC is pushing out?
