I give up.

Two Oxford colleges have been drawn into a race row after announcing plans to host summer balls based on The Great Gatsby and New Orleans in the 1920s.

Magdalen and Lincoln colleges are facing accusations that the events may upset women and ethnic minorities by reminding them of a time of less equality.

They should do New Orleans in the 2000's instead, that was a time when everybody was happy

We need to get Latin off of our currency. It makes me uncomfortable because one of my ancestors was a galley slave.

One of these days, people will figure out that no one really cares about what ultimately does or does not offend you. Just go on with your day, try to accomplish whatever goals you have set out for yourself, and be the best person you can be. The things that are offending these people really have no direct bearing on their day to day lives. Simply put, people need to get over themselves.

Depending on who you ask, this means you can't host an event that focuses on ANY time period, even today.

I was watching tv the other day and this dude basically said this. He (black guy) said essentially that black people and other "oppressed" groups need to read up on history a little more and realize that slavery and subjugation of all kinds of people was the norm in the entire world until very recently. It really made me think. It's certainly not the popular thing to say but there wasn't anything terribly special about slavery in America. Back in the day people didn't live in the comforts of our modern PC society. That wasn't a luxury they could afford. You either were really lucky and were the rare ruling class or you were basically property. History is a brutal story filled with victims. To complain these days about your plight in a country like the US is just ridiculous.

Yep, all those 90+ year old college students are going to have flashbacks. Better just cancel the event.
