In a lawsuit filed Friday, the owner of Uncle Earl's, Brian Ott, says Edwards and Gautreaux violated federal civil rights for enacting the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew beginning Tuesday, Aug. 16 for East Baton Rouge residents. The suit reads that the circumstances under which the curfew was instated, "no longer pose a threat" to residents.

Good. I'll say it again...

Confining people to their homes and impacting the livelihood of individuals and businesses well beyond a reasonable time frame with the threat of being imprisoned, under the guise of safety, all in an attempt to make a political statement is really just the pinnacle of power abuse in my opinion. I hope the city has to pay restitution and I hope we stand up as a community and vote Sid Gautreauxs arse out.

Good. I suggested this yesterday and was lambasted by all the board's small government conservatives.

Governor Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can make as many declarations announcing a state of emergency as he wants and Sheriff Chaudgreaux can point to them as a justification for his tiny-dick authoritarian play, but if the conditions don't fit the bill then it is an unlawful power play.

I was wondering the same thing. I knew Ott was pretty pissed about the curfew but he doesn't strike me as the lawsuit type.

He's well within his rights to file suit...this won't be successful though. Finding people to testify against the sheriff

Maybe he did get flooded out. He may have used Monday (his off day) to take care of his damages at his house, and would now like to get his business back to normal hours to bank some money to make repairs. You should go ask him yourself
