Daddy Ball” in his opinion paints an unrealistic picture of how baseball, sports and basically life really works.
He explains with select youth baseball, kids don’t sit the bench. That’s not how real sports works, so later in life kids quit playing because they have to sit the bench.

The only people directly involved with travel ball and "daddy ball" who will defend it are the coaches of those teams. You take people who occupy the same positions but beyond the travel ball age groups and they will all agree. It's detrimental to 95% of the athletes.

His point was giving every kid on the team playing time and not sitting them while they are kids ruins them when they get to high school and college because they aren't used to "working while they wait" i.e. Sitting the bench.

He's kinda right but his delivery was kinda douchey

This x INFINITY.

Plus, the travel ball associations that put these tournaments on are massive money scams.

Playing any more than 5 tournaments in a year before the age of 13 is pretty much a waste of time and money (this assumes the kid is also playing local rec ball and it is a shame if he isn't). Ramp it up a little more the summer before freshman year. After freshman year, all bets are off.

But as far as sitting the bench, if the roster size is only 10-12 kids, most kids are going to play and play a lot. Most rec teams even have 10-11 kids and minimum play rules. It isn't until high school when some rosters have 18+ kids do you really see the frustrations of the kids on the bench.

In little league all kids should participate. It isn't that competitive. If kids only sit the bench then there is something wrong with how talent distribution is determined in that league.

Darn it, Chicken. If you don't like your son playing all those darned tournaments throughout the year you should just pull him out of the league. Hell, he is the heir to the TD empire. It's not like you are banking on him making it to the Big League

So playing 2 rec games a week and 3-5 games a weekend is okay? That's 5-7 games a week. You think that's okay?

no, I meant that if the kid isn't playing rec ball, then they have a lot more free time to play more than 5 tournaments in a year. We did spring ball at the local little league, plus three tournaments in the summer, one in November and one in February...and I generally hated the summer ones. We never did tournaments during the spring rec season.

Knowing what I know now, it would have been a terrible waste of time to play some of the schedules that some of these select teams play.

I don't think it's Travel Ball, it's the parents that participate and support it.

The way you guys complain about youth baseball on here, I'm going to pray that my son is 6'6" and 230 so he can either play football or basketball. I don't I get that lucky though. Being that my wife played college softball that little cs will probably be the next coming of Jeter
