Turned down for promotion

Absolutely the biggest morale killer for me at my job - interviewed two times for a promotion, even was told by my division manager that the supervisor position was in the bag for me based on education and experience on the job. Then Monday rolls around and they tell me that I didn't get the position due to an outside hire fresh out of college with 0 experience in the field that was willing to do the job for $25k cheaper than my salary demand was, which makes him the first supervisor that will be paid less than the employees.
Is there a bigger kick in the sack than this? What would the OT Ballers do in this situation - sack up and march on with the job and wait another 3-5 years for another position to open up or find a similar position elsewhere? I've been pretty damned irritated for the week since I was given the news and plan on making a decision on what to do soon, leaning towards GTFO with fingers blazing.

If they don't value you then move on.
ETA: assuming it's within your means and is a realistic decision. Don't do anything rash.

Start looking for another job.

Just try and be the hardest worker they have. First guy there, last guy to leave. Don't piss and moan, work your arse off, and everything will fall into place.

Yeah, being unemployed and not getting the only open position available in your field because of internal promotion being cheaper.

I've gotten better jobs over less. Sit tight and start actively searching. I change every 2-3 years anyway.

Bad advice, act quickly before you lose your anger and your courage. Despite what a lot of people tell you, most hastily made decisions are never regretted.

Time to move on. Sounds like poorly managed company if they're hiring supervisors with no experience just to save money.

Honestly I'd start shopping the market. If I'd have stayed in my starting position out of college I would be making 1/3 what I do now. By moving around chasing the next level & pay I was able to achieve what may never have happened where I was. Just my two cents. Also, don't quit until you have something lined up. Prepare yourself. They will counter offer you to stay. Never ever accept that counter though. They will always remember that day.
* Edit ~ also if you do quit on your way out the door tell the rookie he left $25k sitting on the negotiation table, and thats what they were going to pay you. Then walk away.

That sucks. Kinda dumb especially if the job is needing experience. But if he flops you will have a lot of bargaining power

Burn no bridges, smile and be a team player, show how valuable you are to the company while...
Looking for another job.
edit to add: I had a friend who quit his job in anger and stormed out. Two years later his old company bought the company where he was working .
His next evaluation was brutal as was his subsequent termination.

agreed, being efficient is one thing, but when you totally ignore the mission of the company in order to save on salary costs, the leadership can't be focused on doing what it is the company is there for to begin with

They probably learned how much time you spend on the internet when you're at work.....
