Looking at the GMC Sierra extended cab 30,000 and A smaller truck the canyon 21000.

Also looking at the Ford F150 V6 extended cab starting at 28,000

Also considering the 1500 Silverado extended cab and the dodge RAM.

Any info would help trying to find something practical safe as well as have good Gas mileage and I don't need all the bells and whistles. Which trucks are worth my time and which should I discard? Also which dealerships in and around baton rouge do you buy from and why?

You will hear a lot of dumb things on here about trucks just because everyone is crazily loyal to their truck brand. But I've owned a few different brands, and I have a 2014 Ram 1500 big horn right now and it is one of the nicest riding vehicles I've driven in a long time. Also the new Ford f150's are great trucks too, but they are pricey

Also stay away from extended cabs, had one growing up and hearing the people complain in the back about leg room is very annoying

if you don't need "bells and whistles" ignore the gmc. it's basically the chevy for more money (but does look way better). i think the canyon is a sharp truck. if that's all you need, get it

Louisiana sportsman had an advertisement for a double cab Silverado for like 26k.
you must suck at haggling or just don't look around much.

I hope you're not in the Navy

(don't get satellite radio or a newer vehicle with a lot of electronic controls - the gov will take over your vehicle (it's true, I read about it on rt dot com))

I've owned a Dodge Ram for 9 years.
It has lasted me awhile, but I've taken care of it.
I will not buy another because when it comes time to fix it, parts are expensive.
Best truck out there is the Toyota Tacoma.

Are these all brand new?
The new Colorado/Canyons are offered next year with the duramax, if you can hold out until then that will be a stout little truck that would fit your needs perfect. I have a 2009 and it has been the best truck I've ever owned. Almost 180k trouble free miles besides small misc stuff. I've test driven the new 2015s and they're damn nice vehicles.

FWIW we had a 2015 ram 4.8 with 400 miles on it at work, throttle body got stuck on i10 leaving it stuck at 75 until we put it in neutral and coasted to the side. I've heard people love them jut I'd stay as far away from them as possible after that experience.

Depends on what you're going to use the truck for. If you're using as a "car" then any of them will work.....if you're going to use it as a truck then I'd get the GMC.
