I'm in Houston and it cost me $1100 to remove a mature oak tree and grind the stump down.
$400 seems crazy cheap unless you're just hiring uninsured illegals.

I was also told that they may buy the oak from me. So I'm assuming this will help with the price.
Oaks are probably 60' tall and easily accessible.
The pine is a little taller and also easy to get to.
Nice dry lot with a driveway.

Like CP3 said, Bayou tree service if you're in Baton Rouge. Good guys.
Ask for Brennan or Dave and they will take care of you.
Edit: they leave your property looking good too. Some tree services will come in and tear your yard to shite.

An arm and two legs. So expensive.

A single, straight 60' oak tree in the middle of a field would probably costs >$1500 to get cut and removed. Like I said before, these guys will rip you off. I have no idea where all of that money goes, because they never own nice things

Biggz isn't gonna come to Hammond unless it's a ton of work. They did a bunch of work for Southeastern recently on Friendship Oak along with a few others. But i don't know that they would roll out there for a small residential job. Zeff is awesome and he generally has the lowest prices for the tier company he is. Bofinger's, Biggz, and Bayou are all pretty competitive as far as quality, but Biggz is generally 20-30% cheaper. Dave from Bayou is a good dude so i would probably go that route. If you were in BR, i'd say go Biggz or go home.

Insurance premiums?

Get plenty of bids. I had one guy tell me $15,000 and that he was the only guy in the area with the cranes required, etc.
I ended up paying $6,000 to someone who magically also had a crane.

I hear this a lot from people who haven't been in the business. Insurance and Workers Comp are high as hell in that industry. I paid 25% for wc. There are a lot of cost to maintain an arborist company on the up and up. These cheap prices you hear are from people not following the book. We had many rules and regs, but they weren't enforced like they should be.
Best advice I can give, before you hire someone to do this on your property, get a copy of insurance and license and then call to verify them.

Y'all are getting ripped off! 3 trees removed and grinded stumps cost me $1,500. Two of them were elms and the other a hackberry. I'm sure if I was removing a 60' oak though it would be around $1,000 but still not greater than $1,500. That's absurd.

Recently did the same thing. Freaking impossible to get these guys to come out. Eventually got a guy to remove a giant hickory looming too near to my house and dying. Cost $1400.
I imagine that if they just have to chop them down and they won't hit anything important you're looking in the $500-$700 per tree. I know that's about what I've heard of people paying in the past.
I don't know anyone in the Hammond area.

Empty lot? Just buy a chain saw and cut them down. Rent a stump grinder if the stumps are a problem and grind them yourself.

Come on man, $1500 for 2 hours of work and a crew of 3 is a lot of money.
I have been in business for myself and worked for two different companies after that. What I did was to just pay my buddy 1/3rd of what I made to be under his company name and landscape insurance. A full day's work for myself was usually $1500-2500, and I was very cheap compared to everyone around. I'd usually take small jobs because I didn't have a use, as a 22 year old, for all of that money. That allowed a lot of half days where I'd make $1k
I made $3500 in 8 hours one day. Don't tell me that's not good money

It has a mobile home, porch and shop on it that is a rental.
Power lines all around.
I'd like to not drop it on any of that.

I had 7 big pines removed last year, 3 were hard to get to and they had to climb. $2800 with stump grinding.

The two times I had trees removed (before I moved downtown) I just waited until I saw tree removal services in the neighborhood. They're more likely to cut you a deal if they already have their trucks and crew in the area.
