Is it fun? Pros/cons? Tips? Considering a trip up the Crescent Line to NYC.

I've never had a bad experience on Amtrak.

Spacious, smooth, and quiet. There is also WiFi and outlets to charge your stuff.

The trip worth taking is the one from Slidell to T-town (for the game) due to the timing of the train. Also, it lets you get boozed up as opposed to driving. Otherwise, it sucks. Takes longer than flying and is generally more expensive.

The over night from Nola to Chicago is a decent one as well. It drops you in the heart of the city at 9am.

A few years ago the Wife and I rode the Amtrak from NYC to Washington DC. Stopped in philly and a few other places, but spent most of the day in DC. Nothing special it's just a train ride to get you where you want to be.

Took the Amtrak from just outside philly to Manhattan for a day trip. $14 round trip. Can't beat that.

not really

Pros/cons?

Pros: No security checks, can move around as you want, free wifi

Cons: Often delayed, way more expensive than it should be, way slower than it should be, cars are old.

I have to go between DC and NY for work on a regular basis and I wouldn't want to take it any more than that.

It gets pricey for a club car, which is really the only way to go. It's like a bus otherwise.

Is there one through the NW? If so, then that seems like a cool ride to do.

If you don't mind delays, nasty bathrooms, arriving hours past your scheduled arrival time, go for it. The train ride is fun, but Amtrak as a company is the worst.

Can't speak for the trip from Nola to NYC, but if you're traveling the NE corridor, it is the most efficient option IMO.

The Acela from DC to NY and back is by far the best way to go. A bit pricey, but that is the only real drawback.

Disappointing to hear... I didn't expect it to be top of the line, but thought it might be a fun way to see the country and travel a little differently... Not sure it would be worth the hassle

I took the train from NOLA to Philly and it was a good way to see the country. Of course I was in a sleeper car getting loaded. It was a long arse train ride.

My aunt travels between Brookhaven and Chicago via Amtrak and loves it. I've never used it so can't give any opinion.

I traveled from NOLA to DC 12 years ago. Back then it was $450/person for a sleeper car. Well worth it. It was a 26 hour train ride. It was neat, but not very efficient.
