Well, I guess technically it isn't a private company. It is the city, but the cameras are operated by a private company.

I got 2, one down Congress and the other on Jonhston near that Tire place I believe. It's hard af to drive 40 on an open road with no one in front of you and you gotta get to class right quick

redflex is under contract by the city.. the city gives them the authority to regulate speeds and red light runners..
i didn't pay any of mine (2 speeding) and 4 of my wife's (1 speeding and 3 red light runnings)..
when i went to start a home loan process, i had to clear these off my credit.
went to redflex and only paid the red light running and didn't pay any of the late fees.. $75 in total.

I got one when they first added cameras in Lafayette (10-12 years ago). Never paid it. Never showed up on credit background.

Did you contest it with the credit company?
I don't understand how some people are contesting these and getting them cleared, and others are having to pay. Are the people that are paying just not trying to challenge it? Are people lying here, or are some not telling the whole truth?

I don't know how you can drive 40 on Johnston, when you go to class...5? Some of the slowest drivers I've ever encountered all live here.

it wasn't a real credit hit, as in not paying your credit card.. it was more of a credit lien or a minor blemish on the credit. The "collections" letter came from a law firm in Ohio or something and it simply read "being referred to this law firm for help in collections". I threw the letters away when I got them.
It's all a scam but for $75 I thought it was best to get them cleaned up and chalked it up to a lot less had she been stopped by police for running red lights.
I didn't pay any of the speeding tickets as I wanted proof the cameras were calibrated for speed and such.
the red light running was hard to protest as there is a damn pic of her running the red light

I got one about 8 months ago. Got a few letters from some law firm in Ohio but I don't plan on paying the ticket. Mine was speeding, it must have been the SUV they park on the side of the road because it was in Broussard and I don't think they have any cameras set up there.

So you were scammed.
Got it.

I am ok with the cameras. I hate people who put my life in danger by running red lights. If you follow the laws then you should support any attempt to slow people down or second guess speeding up for yellow lights.
This post wasn't about red light tickets, it was about speeding tickets. Specifically for going 5 over in the OP, so GTFO.

What upset me is that multiple people drive my dads vehicle and there was no way to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of receiving one of these.. and he is the one responsible.. he's pretty old.. and then when I reviewed the tape.. whoever was driving did not seem to be speeding whatsoever or going any faster than the cars before and after on the tape.. it's so nit picky..
I hate they hold him responsible, but he wasn't driving.. when if they had been pulled over by an officer.. the driver would have gotten the traffic violation.. not my dad..
I know these type of tickets are often not recognized in court and have been ruled to not have to pay.. but I just pay it to avoid the trouble.. but I agree.. it's the principle of the thing.. and just a way for them to steal money.

We should make a damn sticky for this.
The only ones you should even consider paying are the ones issued in NOLA and that is because they will boot your car. Ignore all others.

I've gotten 2 or 3 over the last 10 years, never paid a single one. The first one was sent to some collection/law agency in Minnesota who sent me a few papers telling me to pay them, sent them a cease and desist letter and never heard from them again ! The others I've torn and threw in the trash immediately after receiving them, never heard anything back from them either. The city can take those letters and shove it up their a** ! Oh and they have never showed up on my credit report.

If you broke the law, you should pay the fine.
They removed a red light camera near my house for bullshite reasons......I literally watch 3-4 cars run it every morning on my way to work. It's a dual left hence 3-4. They've also experienced an increase in crashes since.
Witnessing this crap and almost getting hit myself has me back on the camera bandwagon. Provided it's an appropriate location.

So, you support a police state? Cool story.
Give me a fricking break. People drive 5 over all the time, and MOST cops aren't writing that ticket. Hell, the damn cops themselves drive 5 over.
Wonder how many cops get tickets for blowing through an intersection at 5 over?

It's absolutely a civil judgment. It's a finding of civil liability for allowing your vehicle to be operated in violation of municipal ordinance which is liability based, not a criminal offense. It's no different than an administrative proceeding for letting your grass grow you long.

So the camera ticket company took it to court and had a judge issue a civil judgement requiring you to pay the fine?

No, you were swerved to appear at an administrative hearing by the City of New Orleans, you didn't show up and were defaulted.
