Well my GE washer of about 10 years bit the dust. Tore the agitator assembly apart and found it rusted out below with chunks of metal broken loose. I know I do not want to buy a front loader so top loader it is. Most of the top loaders that I saw today do not have an agitator and have mixed reviews. Read plenty of reviews that say Speed Queen is the way to go but there is no dealer even close. I am looking for longevity and not fancy computer touchscreen with bluetooth. Any advice from the OT?

I bought a commercial May tag a few years ago and it's been great.

Napoleon said Speed Queen, so if I live long enough I'll get one.

You'll get ten years from a Hotpoint (also a GE) thought your problem is repairable, unless you are saying the drum broke apart. GE transmissions can be rebuilt and or replaced.

The cheap Ropers and bottom of the line Whirlpools use electric controls now. I want to say the Hotpoint is the last of the analog controlled Washing machines.
(besides Speed Queen)

Hell even the Hotpoint control is semi solid state circuit. Gone are the days of manual timers that would last 15 years.

I just say to get the cheapest that looks decent to you. The cheaper they are, the less to break and usually the longer they last.

I bought a Speed Queen Dryer the other day for $40 at a garage sale. I don't even have a use for an Electric Dryer, I just saw what it was and stopped the truck and quickly bought it. Whichever of my friends that needs an electric dryer next will never need one again after that.

The whole drum is stainless but underneath the agitator it is not and that is what is completely rusted out. Can you replace just this part Napoleon?

Yeah in 2006 Whilpool bought them so all 2006 and later Maytags have been Whirlpools. Though to be fair there is a lot worse than Whirlpool, Haier almost bought Maytag, and Maytag is still the better of the Whirlpool line, not counting Kitchen Aid.

Ge sold their appliances segment. I'm sure they will still sport the ge name but they sold it to another company

Speedqueen is definitely the way to go. Apartment complexes have started using them over commercial GE or Whirlpool because of how reliable they are. I can't remember the site, but shipping was only 50.00 or so. It's worth it.

nevrmind that's a zero not an "o"

when I typed it out I got it.

what number on these two diagrams is broken?

The hub is not much at all, neither is the bearing.

I pulled everything apart and there is rust everywhere including behind the top controls. At this point I am going to just scrap it and buy a new one. I cannot find a Speed Queen dealer in this area so I will be stuck with a cheap on like you suggested.

Is this unit being kept in an outside location like a shed?

Yeah just get a cheap one $398 at Home depot for a brand new hotpoint. I would charge about that to change the transmission and bearing in your unit.

Do not buy a Maytag or Whirlpool. I bought one a couple years ago and it takes an hour or more to wash and then my wife rewashes most loads because they aren't clean enough. Some energy savings!

If I were buying today I would definitely go Speed Queen.

This is a little cheaper once you add to cart. I've purchased a fridge from this place and didn't have any problems with them.
