I have lived in Louisiana for 30 years all over the state from Shreveport to New Orleans and I have never heard of this.

I see them all the time in the country. I watched my daughter catch a mason jar full of fireflies about this time last year. You just have to be out at night.

This last summer was the last time I saw lightening bugs back. My yard was full of them for the first time since I was a kid.

Their population numbers wax and wane depending on the average temperatures that year. They're always around here in East Texas
