Tipping at a Buffet

Let's say you go to a buffet in Vegas or WDW and the cost is $50+ per adult. The only thing the waiter does is get you drinks. There is no way you can justify a 15% tip for that waiter. I am absolutely against tipping in all forms, but due to US culture I am forced to tip atleast 15% on table service meals. I think a $2 tip is appropriate for a buffet for a family of 4. Am I off base here?

$2 a person I guess would be good.
Don't eat out if you don't want to tip.
I bet they also clear you table of the 6 plates you use

Throw a $5 on the table and be done with it.

It's been a while since I've been to a buffet, but I'd guess $5 for two people is appropriate, $10 for four persons.
When I travel I keep a decent amount of $5s, $10s & $20s on me.

frick what culture tells you to do. At a buffet, I'm tipping $2 per person, regardless of cost.

Yes, you're off base.
First off, a normal tip is 20%. 10-15% is what is expected at a Vegas Buffett.

$50 for a buffet? Well you're already retarded so whatever you choose regarding tipping is irrelevant.

It's funny how people who don't want to tip never complain about restaurant prices. Nor do they protest against tipping by simply avoiding the business where tipping is expected.

Most of the time the restaurant price isn't the problem. I wouldn't go to a restaurant if I considered it overpriced for the quality of food served. On the other hand I think waiters overvalued themselves at 15%. They are unskilled workers and are already being fairly compensated. It's not my fault the employer doesn't value them enough to raise their wages. It's akin to me tipping the pilot on a Southwest flight. He's being fairly compensated for his skillset. Should I tip him for getting me to my destination on time? No that's absurd and same applies to waiters.

Good lord. Not even worth debating you after reading this gem.

Not sure if trolling, but most waiters are paid around $2hour by their employers.

What is it with this boards obsession with tipping? Are you all so fricking cheap you can't spare 20%+ to a server?

I've worked in the service industry for a while now. I would say if there is minimal or no service involved then it's strictly up to you. If someone was actively taking your order and making sure you had everything you needed throughout your meal, that would be different. I just don't think you should expect much as a server if all you are doing is refilling a few drinks and maybe taking some plates off the table. It really annoys me that everywhere you go now someone has a tip bucket on the counter.

I don't get it as well. OP should just take his cheap arse to Burger King instead if he doesn't "believe" in tipping.
ETA: Although I don't think a server at a buffet should expect to get 20% as a tip. Based on the example OP gave, I would likely leave a $20 for a family of 4 at a $50/per person buffet.

Wrong.

You don't have to leave 15% but what's wrong with leaving a few bucks?
