The last update I saw said he's doing a little better and maintaining blood pressure on his own. They are easing back on the sedation a little but, but it's going to be bumpy for another day or so.

That sounds promising.

I hope an arrest is made and the hammer is brought down on them.

Juan was my pledge brother at Tech. Never met someone who smiled as much as this kid. He was always the nicest person in the room and always smiled. So shitty that something like this has to happen to good people. Early word is that he should make a full recovery. Haven't been able to get much more information. frick those dudes

Anyone closing down a restaurant should have an off duty cop there or be packing. This shite happens a lot.

Umm it's not like all armed robbers just take what they want and leave. Sometimes they also kill and/or rape the victim.

It's also possible that the kid didn't realize the guy was armed.

It is interesting that apparently if you saw your mother being robbed at gunpoint you would just cower behind a tree.

It's a good restaurant. I'm a little surprised that this crime happened in that part of town

There are shitty areas all around that area.

The area north of Centenary College is a dumpy area in parts. My paralegal got robbed in front of his house one night (he lived on Dalzell).

Not surprised at all since no where is safe these days.

Thugs don't discriminate where or who they commit crimes against. They target easy, vulnerable people who are unsuspecting and least likely to fight back. I'm sure the perps scoped out El Compadre (premeditated) and knew exactly what time to rob Mrs. Zuniga

The blood drive will occur Monday, July 31 through Friday, Aug. 4 at LifeShare on 8910 Linwood Ave.

GoFundMe page set up for Juan's medical bills. Prayers sent up for the Zuniga family

His sister posted this update earlier today:

quote:

While my mom and a family friend were talking to him today, Juan was able to shake off some of the sedatives and recognize their voices. He waved his hand, almost as if he was saying hello. The doctors and nurses asked him if he understood what they were saying and in response, he gave them a thumbs up! He tried to talk to us but because of all the tubes he's connected to, he was unable to. He acknowledged that he's feeling a lot of pain so he was given some medications to manage that and will be sedated some more for now.
