The owner of a well known Shreveport restaurant was robbed at gun point and her son was shot while trying to help. It all happened at 11:30 pm on Saturday Night at El Compadre Mexican and Seafood Restaurant on East Kings Highway. Enedina Zuniga was leaving her business through the back door. As she tried to get in her car, two armed masked men approached her. Zuniga gave up her purse to the masked men with guns. Then, she screamed for help and her son, Juan Zuniga, came to her rescue. He tried to take the purse back from the criminals but was shot twice in the chest during the struggle.
Very sad, this popular restaurant was is owned by a family who left L.A. to escape gang violence.
This is actually a pretty decent part of town across the street from Centenary college. LINK

well...Highlands is right there.
And you also have that little ghetto in the corner down by Querbes. I used to live right by El Compadre. Knew the family very well as we used to get drunk there all the time.

Passed by yesterday, appeared to be a lot of people in the parking lot/restaurant showing support. Prayers to the family.
Hope those POS rot in hell

if there is anything good that comes out of this, it will be that south Shreveport may wake up about the increase in violence in Shreveport
its been mostly isolated and out of mind for most of us, but this was pretty close to home and to a very popular family and restaurant
maybe this will get some real pressure on local government

Spot on. It's sad shite like this has to happen before something will done, but just maybe this will wake some people up.
I have seen lots of public backlash since this happened, lots condemning the city officials and asking for real solutions. People are fed up with it

There is a blood drive going on today for him.
I live very close to the restaurant as well. I've walked home from the bars there many times trying to do the right thing and not drive. Stuff like this makes that questionable.

So when two masked men are robbing your mother at GUNPOINT you'll just hide behind the building? Got it.
How do you know they weren't going to shoot her?
ETA: go frick yourself. This family is living the American dream. Their oldest child is finishing at Baylor Law next year. This son just graduated in business from La Tech and is helping his mother run the restaurant since the father passed away suddenly last July 4.

Any word on the young man's condition? This is terrible.

I'm not going to try and wrestle a purse from an armed robber.
..and cry

Getting shot over a purse is retarded. He didn't say he shouldn't have tried to help or run and hide. He said getting shot over a purse is retarded in which it very much is.

Last info online is they had to remove one of his lungs.. His sister said he would likely be sedated for about a week.
Any leads on the perps? Is there surveillance video?

What's retarded is shooting someone over a purse, at least the Caddo Commission is about to meet over the confederate statues this week. Hopefully that will stop the violence.

The collective pain from the racist Alton Sterling shooting has spread to Shreveport and good kids are acting out against oppressive Capitalists exploiting their under- funded communities?

He should have just let them take the purse. Why risk your life or the life of your mother over something that can be replaced?

Running after two armed men for a purse isn't smart in hindsight, but in the heat of the moment I understand it.

I'm not going to judge anyone's irrational decisions when their mother is being held up by 2 gunmen
