My son is about 3.5 years away from driving and he needs to learn to turn a wrench for the more advanced stuff other than taking a bike wheel off.

What do you guys think about this as a project?

I think it's badass and if he doesn't want it later on, I get to keep it. I'll restore a rougher one to this condition over 3 years.

Yes, that's a plymouth. not really though. It's a Dodge with Plymouth labels. They are hard to find in decent shape right now and I'm thinking they go up a tad in value. You can get one now in decent shape for about $4k

How about ask him what he wants and go from there instead of forcing what you want down his throat?

Just seen this

Pretty badass if you both wrench on it together.

Its pretty trashy and a gas guzzler, but those two things sound perfect for a 16 year old boy in the South for his first car

I'd drive the shite outta that when I was 16.

You're gonna get so many calls in the middle of the night to go pull him out of some mud hole out in the middle of nowhere.

Get him something safe and reliable. Don't use his first vehicle as your project. That will not end well.

Exactly. Just teach him to use his friends for the longer trips in their civics and accords.

See, that's the thing about spouting off on the internet. You can easily be proven a fool. We talked about it and he loves the truck.

I guess you can piss off now.

Because considering he's 3.5 years away from driving, he's probably 13 years old and doesn't know what he wants.

I'd drive the hell out of that truck at 35, can imagine how cool that'll be for a 16 year old. Mud holes everywhere!

Badass.

Scruffy's first car was a 1973 Jeep CJ-5.

Old cars are both cool and fun.

Then why are you asking the OT?

I would much rather something like this in HS over a Honda or some bullshite. Hell, half the fun I got into at that age involved getting off the beaten path and fricking off

Plymouth Duster. Should be fun. Two ways to go. Keep it rough and not care so much. Help your son as he fixes it up and gradually he'll gradually break into driving it. Kids who restore their own cars are often less likely to trash them.

That's the idea. Something to be proud of and time with me disguised as working on his truck.

His chances of dying or getting seriously injured in a wreck will probably increase, but it does look cool.

More reason to take it slow and respect the road

From 10 years of age to college the vehicle I wanted stayed the same. It's usually after college when a boy's vehicle preference starts changing then around 40 we go back to what you wanted as a kid.

I just made that up because it's true for me.
