So our little neighborhood just had a couple of thieves going through it in the early hours of morning. Stealing lawn equipment and Yeti coolers mostly.

Someone in our neighborhood had a camera system that caught excellent pictures of one of the guys, even though nothing was taken from that particular neighbor. This person posted the images on Facebook and they spread, and the thieves were caught. They are in big trouble.

Apparently one of the thieves is a family member of someone that lives in our neighborhood. That family member is going crazy because "they had no right" to post the photos because nothing was stolen from them. The photos spread like wildfire through the neighborhood, then surrounding neighborhoods, then the community.

From a private FB group for our neighborhood:

"You have created untold amounts of problems in our family for something that didn't even involve you. When redacted is found innocent we are going to sue the hell out of you and everyone who posted the photo. You messed with the wrong family."

I moved to the nice part of town thinking I would get away from such. Ah, Mississippi, you're a bitch sometimes.

Sue them for what exactly? It's not defamation if it's substantiated by evidence.

You know how this goes. Their position is that he was just walking around the neighborhood. The images just show him- no evidence that he took anything.

The thieves were caught on camera Trespassing at least, no leg for a defamation lawsuit to stand on, especially if the original posting was phrased as a question: Could this be the thieves?

But the drama...gonna have drama any time 2 or more people interact. Actually, drama only requires the presence of a single individual, if the individual is female there will be drama. Kinda like the tree falling in forest though: If a woman is all dramatic and no one is there to "share", does she make any noise?

While I'm familiar with trashy MS drama, is it possible they have a point? Were the stolen items found at his house?

well it is was surveillance cameras, and to get close enought to have a great pic of him, he must have been up on the porch or on their property. So there for he was trespassing.

Something has obviously been omitted from this story. If nothing was stolen from the location where the footage was collected, how do they know its the same people?

So instead of blaming the thief, they blame the people fighting back against crime?

Trust me, I know how these things usually work, there's just a few details missing in OP. Security cameras could have been pointed at the street and he might not have been on their property. The guy could have known the people who stole the shite but not have been involved, etc. I'm just curious more than anything.

Same.

I hope OP keeps us updated.
