My next door neighbor's mom loved Deano. Watched his variaty show every week and talked about him all the time. She was kind of a hipster for her day. Drove a little yellow and white T-bird convertible.

Also chain smoked and had her own alcoholic husband at home.

Yep. I have his 1960 album "Thos Time I'm Swingin'".
Stereo mixdown from a 3 track multitrack.
The brass is killer.

Yep. I remember that, but it didn't fit the picture I was trying to paint. Or, that he was trying to portray. But, true.

If you want to see something hilarious, but completely politically incorrect and racist (by today's standards), watch the Dean Martin Roast of Sammy Davis, Jr. on youtube. Black jokes, Puerto Rican jokes, spousal abuse jokes, Jewish jokes.... It's not mean spirited, includes some all-time great comedians and entertainers, and is as funny now as it was back then. (yes, I'm old)

Just listened to it. OMG, the SJW's would have that shite shut down within the first 5 minutes these days.

Black Puerto Rican Jew, back in what were supposedly racist times.

Jokes were of nomenclature then, it all boiled down to people, being people.

Sammy Davis Jr. had no problems, when many here think he should have had some.

He would have laughed at the SJW, as he was a prime example of - if you´re good enough, you´re good enough-.

Everybody made fun of everybody´s racial or cultural background back then, it was no big deal.

Nobody was the -lesser than-.
