The helmet is odd, but the pyramid is just a protruding rock. It looks cool, but it's probably just the pointed tip of a larger rock buried under the clay. I've seen pyramid shaped rocks before...it's not uncommon.
The helmet I can't explain..that's not a normal shape of rock from common wind erosion.

The Helmet pic is very interesting.
Obviously, an advanced civilization that can travel from planet to planet would be vastly technologically superior to our current civilization.
So it becomes obvious they would rely on our WWI helmet technology to protect themselves in battles with other advanced civilizations.

NASA is using photoshopped pics to gain interest from the public so they can lobby for future funding. I wish they would at least release pics that revealed the REAL color of the landscape

I can see this as a made for TV movie plot:
Earth was actually just a colony for humans. Mars was inhabited by a very advanced human society that actually sent over a few specimens thousands of years ago on an experimental mission to develop a society. While that was occurring, some kind of catastrophic event forced the bulk of the human population on Mars to starve to death. A few very privileged humans moved discreetly to the new earth colony about 500 year ago. Their offspring run most of the developed nations in the world.
