I understand this is all amateur footage and this is very nit picky, but it's bugging the shite out of me. Guys are cruising through flooded neighborhoods shooting vertical and we can only see 1 house at a time. I just can't understand how this phenomenon is still a thing. Have seen a ton of folks at the Olympics going verticle too. How do people not put it together that since tvs and movie screens are horizontal, you should probably turn your video camera that way too?

I apologize in advance for my insensitive thread, I realize there are much more important things going on down here, but still....

Phones should automatically fix this. I'm old and can't help doing vertical video.

I sympathize, but verticle is easier to do one handed.

For real. I saw that sprinter from Mississippi's (I think) family going verticle with an iPhone for the 100m. I mean, if you are gonna go horizontal for ANYTHING, you'd think it'd be the 100m dash.

It's much more natural to hold your phone vertically. The camera sensor isn't designed in such a way to correct for this because it is rectangular.

this, with larger phones holding the phone horizontal is a bitch. Wouldn't be hard at all for the phone to film wide format while held vertical.

People who send shite to the news are the type of people that record shite in portrait. They're stupid.

It's why I get all my news from the OT.

Then it should automatically downgrade to something like 960x540 unless the user intentionally changes it to vertical video mode. And intentionally changing it should cause a drone strike to hit the user's location.
