The upcoming Jos. A. Bank sale

Just received this email:

On July 17 2012 (aka "Super Tuesday"), for the first time ever, you can receive 70% off the entire store.

I'm mainly posting this for the dude that was asking about buying a cheap suit on here the other day.

Also, how does Jos. A. Bank remain in business with all of these sales every weekend? This weekend the sale was buy anything and get 6 free. I've always wondered they remain in business

A little from what I was told by a major investor. Artificially high prices, markdown to normal profit levels. They used to be able to sell at a lot higher price, but their demand took a drastic drop.

Jos A Bank lawsuit

They remain in business because those "sales" aren't really sales at all. They're scams.

Because a shite load of people buy there. Their margins are still crazy. I know a guy that used to work there and their signature suits that sell for $800 cost $75 to make.

It's the walmart of suits. Tons of volume.

That doesn't make any sense though. For example, consider the sale they had this weekend. If I buy a suit, I get two suits, 2 dress shirts, and 2 silk ties for free.

How under any scenario is that not a sale? For, lets say, $800, I get 3 suits; 2 shirts; and 2 silk ties for the price of $800.

I suck at math and don't know anything about business though. Halp?

Unless you are saying the cost of all that is truly $800 or less.

this is what he is saying

Jos A Banks is never not having a sale. Their "original price" is a joke, because none of their stuff is ever sold at the "original price" mark.

True. Does it mean you can get just 1 suit at 70% off? I don't want 3 suits from there.

I'm sure someone has. 99% of people never buy those suits at full price. They make their own suits in Indonesia iirc. The other stores sell brands.
