When those worthless assholes went through my shite they opened it and then left it on and I guess it cooked itself.

I don't have a ton of experience with the TSA, but good luck. If you make a big enough stink about it they might.

How does a laptop cook itself just on the battery. It will eventually go to sleep or the battery went dead. Did you watch them turn it on and turn it off?

They could easily make an argument that he should have had it in an appropriate laptop case, in which there's very little chance it could get cooked. It could shorten the battery's life, but no way you can quantify that in a complaint.
He's going to need a better story to get any traction.
