I'll be forever thankful to these men. They pulled my wife, grandson (age 5) and my puppy out of harms way and brought us all to safety. I thanked them from the bottom of my heart. They didn't say anything, just dropped us off at the edge of the raging waters, turned their boat around and went back to rescue someone else.
I watched them plow through the water back to my flooded neighborhood. I thought they were Gods, so did my grandson. I kid you not.

The guys were running boats through my neighborhood in BR during the 16 flood for days saving people. I helped load my 92 year old neighbor into one and a family with a son with downs syndrome into another. frick all of the people that criticize them.

Wife and I didn't flood here in Katy but lots of friends did. Watched on the news where a group of guys from Lake Charles (where we both are from) were rescuing people literally 2 miles from our house. We took a picture and posted on Facebook for family/friends back home.
We couldn't leave out of our subdivision and we felt enourmous pride, to not only them, but all the folks from back home running around for 2 days straight.
When we were able to at least drive around, We have an academy by our house where literally dozens of Louisiana guys were meeting up to discuss where to go and drawing up a battle plan of action. We thought academy was open ! (Hahaha)

The writer forgot a couple of things, maybe more but that article was specifically brief.
I'd note that those "red necks" weren't nazis or kkk either.
The other point is they gladly work at this side by side with other races.
The main reason the group looks like a near all white privilege bunch is because that's the kind of person you will see using the boats for recreation that work best for this. .... and they know how to use them.

Well written piece. Agree with everything that was said. One of my favorite quotes from the flood last August that summed up this mentality was, "I don't care if you are black, white, brown, yellow or green. If you're wet, get in the damn boat!"
