I guess this can't be opened at my work.
Interesting illustration. Serious Question: Why is the black race mostly focused in densely populated cities?
Edit: Why are minorities mostly focused in densely populated cities? It doesn't seem to be just the black race. Or maybe it's the color dots they used??

Government housing.

Why are minorities mostly focused in densely populated cities?
Also the economic draw -- people have been complaining about the poor overcrowding cities since ancient Rome

It is where the most support can be found...soup kitchens, low income housing, etc.
Crime lowers land value tremendously, large population of crime in a small area will lower housing, meaning more low income people will move there; ultimately raising crime and the cycle continues.

Check out Atlanta. The white folks just keep moving further north. ATL is the real Chocolate city based on that map.

Lots of work has been done on historical migration patterns among minorities and immigrants in this country. I can't give it a fair treatment, but it goes something like this: You're a poor sharecropper or fresh off the boat immigrant looking for (1) Economic opportunity, and (2) A place where you can more or less blend in. Do you choose some small town in Iowa that you probably never heard of, or do you pick New York, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Detroit (at the time) etc.? Well that's what they did. And moreover, since the grass is always greener, their families saw them "doing better" and often followed suit. And they moved into the same building where their friend/relative lived. And the next one to move up moved next door. And organic ethnic sectionalism took hold in every city in the country (aided by racial prejudice and housing practices). Then they started having their own children and on and on. And large cities were generally ports of debarkation for immigrants coming from Europe and Asia. That explains Italian, Irish, Polish, etc communities as well as the relatively heavy Asian populations on the west coast.
