Explain this red moon to me, nerds. I didn't hear anything about a lunar eclipse being tonight.

The red hue you are seeing is Martian soil ejected out into the interplanetary zone by the recent excess solar flare activity.

Eventually (over millions of years) this soil will coalesce into a belt (or belts) around the Earth similar to Saturn's rings.

I thought everybody knew about this.

Every night I take my dog out I have a nice stare at the moon. It's fascinating.
