The only way to be sure is if someone can confirm that he tested in the 98th percentile on the pre-ACT test

I don't know squat about Jiu Jitsu, but it says and he is only wearing a purple belt. A quick google search shows black belts and multiple levels are the highest.
So my take is that he was the gold medal winner in the purple belt division?
So basically he won like the Single A baseball championship?

It takes a few years of consistent training to get a purple belt from a reputable black belt.

i don't know much about BJJ competitions but i don't think they divide by belt
and purple belts can beat black belts. it's not impossible. if you're a purple and you're REALLY good at 1 or 2 things, you have a shot against a random sample of black belts (especially if they don't know you're elite in that 1 or 2 things)

It's not the more well known Abu Dhabi combat club championships which are no gi
He's also a purple belt so he's probably been in bjj for 5-10 years

In an ideal setting a purple belt bjj guy (who knows no other grappling, and isn't sand bagged) should never beat a black belt

Keep in mind there are some 3 stripe purple belts that do have the skill set of a brown belt (the next level up) or possibly black
