How the hell do neighborhoods like the lower 9th get labeled as historically black? That area was all white for longer than it's been black.
Because facts dont fit the narrative.

All of these historical trends led to a weird result where there are barely any poor/working class white people in the city of New Orleans. The working class whites got pushed off to St Bernard, Jefferson, or the West Bank, and the only white folks left are the middle aged law partners who can afford Uptown or Lakeview. So within NO itself, white almost automatically = well off, and poor almost automatically = black. This makes these issues doubly difficult to deal with since they are charged on both sides.

So black new orleans profited off whitey and now will get mad at him.

Don't forget the wealthier whites who don't want to deal with all the negatives of living in Orleans Parish. They move to Jefferson or St. Tammany.

I love how the culture demands that the city not be made better....they actively campaign for dirty squalor.

Why are you such a terrible poster? Do you practice it on another site? You have got it down pat.

Fwiw that's where I just moved to and I have a nice and affordable apartment.

True wealth moving from Orleans to Jefferson is all but non-existent now. Very little of it is still moving to St. Tammany.

Jefferson and St. Tammany not on the list.

Hell, even pseudo wealth in Orleans is not really moving to Jefferson anymore.
Some of that is certainly still going to the Northshore, but not as much as in years past.

Whoa whoa whoa, who you calling middle aged? I bought my house Uptown when I was 29 (now 30).

There is absolutely true old $$ wealth in Old Metairie, but the Metairie Club Gardens area basically serves as an extension of Uptown and is part of Jefferson in name only

"New Orleans was built on the culture bearers and musicians that made this city special. If we want those traditions to continue, then families must have access to housing that's affordable in all of our neighborhoods," Hill said.

The trick, he said, is to strike a balance, to focus resources on neighborhoods where gentrification threatens to get out of control. By using federal dollars as an incentive, the city can encourage developers to include units dedicated to low- and middle-income residents, ensuring that the economic pendulum in those areas doesn't swing too far in the opposite direction.
"Young people move to New Orleans because of the music and culture," Morris said. "No one ever moved to New Orleans to watch a middle-aged white guy practice law."
this is one of those funny things where people "buy into the bullshite" and won't come back to reality
if people TRULY valued the music that highly, then they would pay for the music and an issue would not develop
i don't know what scares these writers more: the fact that people don't value music that much or having to admit that truth out loud

Once it goes black, it never goes back

There is no gentrification happening in New Orleans
Yeah ever since Katrina there's always stories about how New Orleans is getting better but every time I have to go down there it always looks the same to me.

That's because Bourbon St does look the same as it did before Katrina.

I never go to Bourbon St. When I go to New Orleans its to see family or do business and as soon as I'm done with that I leave and come back home.

So you don't bother to explore the city outside of isolated spots but you wonder why you haven't seen the improved gentrified parts. Yea that's fair.
