My little girl and I are at Big Cedar Lodge. We went swimming at around 9:30pm. The pool and hot tubs closed at 10:00pm. As we were walking back to our lodge, we saw a shooting star! This was her first shooting star.

And then I remembered that tonight is the Geminids Meteor Shower. We laid in the grass and stared straight up at Orion. In about 30 minutes time we counted 16 shooting stars, most occurring in pairs. We saw 16 in 30 minutes in the middle of a resort with background lighting.

I can't imagine how awesome the show is in the dark country with little to no background lights.

Go outside now. They peak between midnight and sunrise.

The warm glow of multi colored Christmas lights from St George have killed the meteor show.

first, very cool thing about you and your daughter...you may not realize it, but you have just had an experience that both of you will remember for the rest of your lives...

second, thanks for the reminder about the meteor shower...I think I will go and sit outside for a while and finish off this glass of makers...

My wife and kids are now asleep but I may go back out at midnight (1:00pm eastern). It's really active up there tonight. Fwiw, I saw most around Orion.

And yes we most certainly created one hell of a memory together. She was amazed that "stars" could suddenly shoot across the sky. She damn near lost her shite!

I was experiencing about a 2 minute lull with 2-3 coming in 15-30 second bursts. That's not bad

that is golden...it is really cool to see kids during that time in life when they are discovering new things every day...

I just sat out for about 20 minutes and saw several during that time...

I really enjoy cold clear nights and this was a perfect opportunity to sit out and collect my thoughts about what is important in life and what is not...unfortunately, I am kinda fricked up, so I may not remember any of what I figured out...

I saw 30 clear meteors in about 20 minutes. I noticed several meteors in my peripheral vision that I did not count. At least 10 uncounted peripheral meteors. Not bad!

Good night, America.
